ADSL: Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
Digital subscriber line (DSL) technology transmits data over phone lines without interfering with voice service. That means you can surf and speak at the same time. This product is "Best effort" so speeds do vary based on amounts of subscribers using the line with you. The Telkom disclaimer says it all, "ADSL is a best effort service and no guarantees are provided on throughput. ADSL is an access medium to the Internet or your preferred ISP and will not overcome any bandwidth related constraints within the World Wide Web."
CAP
The limit in Gigabytes that can be used by your account (varies by account - 2Gb, 3gb, 5gb and so on). Note that this is the sum of traffic and includes both up and downloaded.
Uncapped
An uncapped ADSL account is not governed by a CAP so will not stop at an inconvenient time. Uncapped accounts are covered by AUP (Acceptable User Policy) designed to ensure that all uncapped users have the available bandwidth distributed fairly amongst them. With more bandwidth available and pricing coming down it is quite possible that you could end up spending less with an uncapped account. Please contact us and we will do an exercise for you to see which product is best suited to your needs.
DSLAM - Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer
The DSLAM at the access provider is the equipment that really allows DSL to happen. A DSLAM takes connections from many customers and aggregates them onto a single, high-capacity connection to the Internet.
SMTP Server
This varies depending on the provider as it is the Outgoing Server and can be different to the Incoming (POP3) server. SOS ADSL accounts use the smtp.isdsl.net SMTP server.
