Tax Refund Process From Sars @ June 2011

Hi All,

This very authentic looking document from Standard Bank (and possibly others) asks you to click on links and enter details including PIN numbers..

By now this should be ringing all the bells but sadly there are still people who will do this and then wonder why they have had their bank account cleaned out.

DELETE and ignore. If SARS have a pile of money to give back to you they will send an official notice.

Be safe and always vigilant, until people stop getting caught by this kind of SCAM they will continue..

Malware

Hi All,

Over the past two months we have seen a 60+% increase in Malware infections in the standard capped ADSL community. Please be very careful of clicking on email links or attachments as well as web sites that may infect.

There is a really good little program canned Malwarebytes and it is a free program that will scan your PC/s for Malware and clean as needed. I strongly suggest you download this program and do a weekly scan to keep yourself clear.

You can find it via Google or at www.malwarebytes.com

For those of you with a domain this is critical as if your domain is blacklisted it could take weeks to get it cleared, during which time email will fail and websites could be compromised so please be very careful and avoid the heartache.

Solar flare eruptions set to reach Earth

Hi SOSLister’s

Thanks to David for this heads up.

Scientists around the world will be watching closely as three eruptions from the Sun reach the Earth over Thursday and Friday. These “coronal mass ejections” will slam into the Earth’s magnetic shield.
The waves of charged solar particles are the result of three solar flares directed at Earth in recent days, including the most powerful since 2006.

The biggest flares can disrupt technology, including power grids, communications systems and satellites.

So if your cell phones, wireless links and just about anything electronic acts stranger than usual this may be the problem..

Maybe not the best few days to go blindly where your GPS directs?

Cheers.

Microsoft has issued a “critical” warning over a newly-discovered flaw in Windows

Thanks to Ken for forwarding this to me.  This warning is for those of you out there who still actually use Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE) as opposed to an alternate browser like Firefox or the emerging Google Chrome Browser. As the problem is actually in all Windows Operating systems I thought it best to pass the info onto you.

Happy Christmas to all!

Christmas again, how time has flown,
a busy year, lots has grown,

12 months have passed, since last greet,
therefore no time to be discreet.

They say Christmas comes but once a year,
and with it lots of cheer,

But life is so dear,
Why do we always wait until this time for the cheer?

Rather do this every day,
and smile as you go on your way,

(Even for the boss)

Have a really happy and peaceful Christmas!

From all of us here at SOS!

SOSList Contact

I do apologise for the silence – the last few months have been busy and the usual Virus and Seacom issues have been well publicised. However I am getting many requests to continue with the SOSList occasional notices about viruses, connectivity issues and related information or special stuff so I shall do so.

But I know that you all hate SPAM as much as I do so I am asking you to please email me or use the unsubscribe option below if you do not want me to talk to you occasionally. Likewise, if you know of anyone who you believe would be interested in the information, please mail us to add them.
